The UK’s Deep Tech sector has attracted $51.9bn in equity funding to date, with almost a third of that capital flowing into the ecosystem since the start of 2025, according to a new report from Tracxn Technologies.

The sector raised $17.7bn across 2025 and 2026 year-to-date, including $11.3bn in the first eight months of 2026. The sharp increase in funding highlights growing investor appetite for areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced computing, energy and other emerging technologies. However, the latest funding boom is increasingly concentrated among a small group of companies.

Six companies – Isomorphic Labs, Nscale, Wayve, Ineffable, FluidStack and Fidra Energy – accounted for nine funding rounds of $500mn or more between 2025 and 2026 year-to-date. Their outsized raises represent a significant share of the UK’s recent Deep Tech investment. The figures were published on August 27 by Tracxn Technologies in its Deep Tech – UK Report, which examines funding, investor activity, acquisitions, IPOs and other trends across the country’s Deep Tech ecosystem.

More than $10bn raised in 2026
The UK is home to 7,397 tracked deep tech companies, of which 2,040 have raised equity funding. The funded cohort continued to expand in 2026, with 45 new companies joining the group so far this year. Of those, 41 have raised equity funding. While the number of new funded companies has slowed from previous years – falling from 123 in 2023 and 103 in 2024 to 80 in 2025 – some of the latest entrants have attracted significant amounts of capital. Ineffable is the standout example, raising $1.1bn across three rounds. It is followed by Callosum, which has raised $110mn, and AccuQuant, with $20mn. The trend suggests that while fewer companies are entering the funded cohort, those that do secure backing are increasingly capable of attracting large rounds.

Seven Deep Tech unicorns created in 2026
The UK has now produced 17 deep tech unicorns – privately held companies valued at more than $1bn – with seven reaching that milestone in 2026 alone. The latest cohort includes Humanoid, Odyssey, PhysicsX, Nyobolt, Ineffable, Granola and FluidStack. Together, the seven companies represent nearly half of all UK deep tech unicorns created to date. London dominates the ecosystem, accounting for 14 of the UK’s 17 Deep Tech unicorns. Humanoid, an industrial humanoid robotics company, became the newest addition in July 2026. UK deep tech companies are also reaching unicorn status considerably faster than their global counterparts. According to Tracxn, the companies reached a $1bn valuation in an average of 3.3 years from Series A, compared with a global average of nine years.

Acquisitions remain the main exit route
Despite the surge in funding and unicorn creation, exits remain relatively subdued. The UK deep tech sector has recorded 323 acquisitions and 45 IPOs to date. Companies reach an acquisition in an average of 9.8 years from their first funding round, compared with 13.4 years for those that eventually go public. In 2026 year-to-date, there have been 18 acquisitions and no IPOs. That compares with 33 acquisitions and four IPOs during the whole of 2025. The figures point to a deep tech ecosystem experiencing rapid capital growth but with exits still largely dependent on acquisitions rather than public markets.

Overall, Tracxn’s data shows a UK deep tech sector entering a new phase of scale. Funding has accelerated sharply, unicorn creation has surged and a growing number of companies are attracting substantial rounds. At the same time, investment is becoming increasingly concentrated among a relatively small number of high-growth businesses.
